Behind every thriving rugby league club are the people who give their time, energy, and heart without asking for recognition.

For Women in League Round 2026, clubs from across Auckland nominated one woman who embodies the spirit of their club. The result is a collection of mothers, coaches, players, managers, committee members and volunteers whose dedication often goes unseen, but whose impact is felt by everyone around them.

These are the women who keep our game moving. Here are their stories.
 

James Te Pou & Tracey Lupeiki, New Lynn Stags

James and Tracey have been the driving force behind the growth of girls rugby league at New Lynn Stags. Over the past six years, James has dedicated himself to creating opportunities for young female players, and now serves as Coaching Director, supporting eight girls teams while mentoring coaches and helping the game continue to grow. Alongside him, Tracey has poured countless hours into building a safe, welcoming environment where girls can develop confidence, friendships, and a genuine love for rugby league. Together, they have helped establish the New Lynn Valkyries, grown female participation at the club, and created lasting pathways for the next generation. Their tireless commitment, passion, and selfless service have transformed the girls game at New Lynn, leaving a legacy that extends far beyond the field.

Rachel Anderson, Hibiscus Coast Raiders

Rachel is the heart of the Hibiscus Coast Raiders. Whether she's running committee meetings, working behind the bar, organising merchandise, helping in the kitchen, or ensuring game days run smoothly, she's always the first to lend a hand without expecting anything in return. Even though her sons no longer play for the Raiders, her commitment to the club has never wavered. Loved by the entire community, and occasionally keeping the odd misbehaving kid in line, Rachel embodies the dedication, passion, and selfless spirit that grassroots rugby league is built on.

Chrystal Mana, Pakuranga Jaguars

Chrystal Mana is the definition of a selfless volunteer, quietly giving her time and energy to support every corner of the club. A mother, mentor, and trusted support person for players, coaches, managers, and families, she oversees player registrations, manages the club's social media, and is always willing to step in wherever she's needed. This season, she worked tirelessly to establish Under 11 and Under 12 girls' teams, and although numbers fell short, she continues to train and support those girls each week to keep them connected to the game. Alongside raising two young children, including a son with a disability, Chrystal is also training as a referee and has taken on coaching and managing an Under 6 team. Her dedication, compassion, and tireless commitment make her an invaluable part of the club and a deserving recipient of recognition during Women in League Round.

Rebecca Taua, Tuakau Broncos
 

Becs is an exceptional volunteer in sport whose passion for league and commitment to the community truly stand out. She is deeply dedicated to seeing children succeed, no matter which sport they choose, and she actively works to keep community sports thriving through her participation and unwavering support. Her enthusiasm is infectious, inspiring both players and fellow volunteers alike.

Known for her strong work ethic, Becs consistently gives 110% in everything she does. She approaches her role with patience, understanding, and a clear sense of purpose, always striving to help young athletes reach their full potential. Her goal-oriented mindset ensures that every training session and interaction is meaningful and impactful.

Becs’ athlete-centered coaching style is one of her greatest strengths. She prioritizes the needs, confidence, and development of each player, creating a positive and encouraging environment. What makes her even more remarkable is that she does all of this with a genuine smile, making everyone feel valued and supported.

It is rare to find someone as motivated and dedicated as Becs. Her passion for league and commitment to youth development make her an invaluable part of the sporting community.

Chi Sofaea, Glenfield Greyhounds

Chi Sofaea is the embodiment of dedication and service within the Glenfield Greyhounds community. Now in her 12th season as a team manager, Chi has supported players from Under 6s through to Under 16s, creating a positive and supportive environment where young athletes can develop, enjoy the game, and feel part of something bigger. Her commitment has made her a trusted and valued figure among generations of Greyhounds families.

Chi has also played a significant role in growing the women’s game at the club, both as a passionate advocate and as a player herself in 2024 and 2025. She was instrumental in strengthening opportunities for women and girls, helping the team grow and ensuring female rugby league continued to flourish at Glenfield.

Beyond the field, Chi continues to give back through her work on the club committee, supporting junior grades and helping build a strong future for the club. A devoted mother of four, with three sons also playing for the Greyhounds, Chi’s commitment extends far beyond her own teams. Her tireless work, leadership, and passion for rugby league have left a lasting impact on the Glenfield Greyhounds and make her a deserving recipient of recognition during Women in League Round 2026.

Zjani Aumau, Te Atatu Roosters

Zjani is a cornerstone of the Te Atatu Roosters community, dedicating countless hours to supporting players, families, and the wider hapori. A mother of three tamariki who all play for the Roosters, she manages two teams, sits on the club committee, and continues to give back through her many community roles, including serving on the parent board at Matipo Primary and the board for Te Kōhanga Reo o Te Kōtuku.

Often found at the clubrooms organising uniforms, gear, and everything teams need to succeed, Zjani’s incredible organisation and commitment ensure nothing is missed. After beginning her journey on the Junior Committee, she has stepped into a senior leadership role and has been instrumental in guiding this season’s Junior Committee.

Her dedication, passion, and willingness to serve others make her a true pou within the Te Atatu Roosters and wider community. We are incredibly grateful for all the mahi Zjani does, and to her whānau, thank you for sharing her with us.

Victoria Leslie, Howick Hornets

For the past seven years, Vic has been a driving force behind the club, serving as a dedicated committee member and contributing in more ways than could ever be counted. Although she stepped back from her official duties this season for personal reasons, she has continued to support the club as an advisor, Under 9s co-manager, and ever-reliable volunteer. Her willingness to step in wherever needed has helped make the transition to a new committee seamless and has played a significant role in creating one of the club's strongest seasons yet, with participation, energy, and enjoyment at an all-time high. Respected, appreciated, and loved by everyone at the club, Vic's selfless commitment and passion make her an invaluable part of the rugby league community.

Bianca Lord, Waitemata Seagulls

Bianca is a true Waitemata Seagulls through and through, having been part of the club from the very beginning. Her commitment to rugby league, particularly the growth of the women’s game, is unmatched. Since the introduction of the club’s women’s team, Bianca has played an integral role in supporting and developing the women’s and girls’ pathways at Waitemata.

Her dedication comes from the heart, and her passion for creating opportunities and supporting every woman and girl who comes through the club has made a lasting impact. Bianca’s selfless commitment, countless sacrifices, and unwavering support embody everything Women in League represents.

The Waitemata Seagulls are incredibly grateful for everything Bianca does for the club and the women’s game. Thank you, Bianca, for your passion, dedication, and the legacy you continue to build.

Tyla Harris-Lafaele, Otahuhu Leopards

Tyla is someone who truly embodies the spirit of Women in League. When the Otahuhu committee was asked to nominate a female who has made a positive contribution to women’s rugby league, Tyla was the unanimous choice. Her infectious positivity, genuine care, and passion for the game are felt throughout the club.

Always wearing a smile, Tyla goes above and beyond to support teams of all ages and genders, whether it’s cheering from the sideline, sharing her support through social media, or lending a hand with the Premier Women’s and Men’s teams. She is someone who never hesitates to help when needed and always brings energy, encouragement, and heart to everything she does.

Tyla’s love for Otahuhu Rugby League and the wider game is undeniable. Her dedication, selflessness, and unwavering support make her a valued member of the club and a deserving recipient of recognition during Women in League Round 2026.

Brianna McCauley, Northcote Tigers

Brianna is a shining example of the dedication and commitment that keeps grassroots rugby league thriving. She first joined the club as a parent who was encouraged to take on the role of managing her son’s Under 6 team, a challenge she accepted without hesitation. From the beginning, she earned the trust and respect of players, parents, and the wider club community through her care and commitment.

Since then, Brianna has continued managing the same team as they have progressed through the grades, while also supporting her daughter’s Under 6 team—juggling training, game days, and the needs of two teams. This year, she has taken on an even greater role within the club committee, leading the Junior section with enthusiasm and passion, while also managing the club’s social media.

Brianna’s willingness to step up, support others, and give her time to the club reflects the true spirit of Women in League. Her dedication and positive impact on the next generation of players make her a deserving recipient of recognition.

Jonsal Tautari, Pukekohe Pythons

Jonsal Tautari is a true leader and role model within the Pukekohe Pythons and the wider Franklin rugby league community. For more than a decade, Jonsal has dedicated herself to the game she loves, making an impact both on and off the field through her commitment, leadership, and passion for helping others succeed.

As a player, Jonsal has achieved the highest levels of the sport, winning multiple Steele Shanks and national titles, while also representing New Zealand Māori. However, her contribution extends far beyond her own playing achievements. She has coached numerous junior teams over the past decade, led the Pythons’ first International Grade Girls team in 2025, and guided the Pythons Women’s team to the 2025 Auckland Championship title—all while balancing full-time study and work.

For Jonsal, giving back is about whakapapa, honouring those who came before her and continuing the legacy built by the whānau who have shaped her journey. She carries that same spirit forward by creating opportunities, inspiring young players, and showing the next generation what is possible when you combine talent with purpose.

Jonsal’s dedication, humility, and unwavering commitment to her club and community make her an exceptional ambassador for women’s rugby league. She is a true inspiration to young kōtiro and wāhine across Franklin, and the Pukekohe Pythons are incredibly grateful for the legacy she continues to build.

Rose Iefata, Richmond Rovers/Roses

Rose’s journey with Richmond Rugby League is a true reflection of her passion, dedication, and commitment to the community. Starting as an Under 6s team manager when her daughter first began playing, Rose has continued to grow her involvement and became a valued member of the Richmond Junior Committee in 2019.

Her commitment to supporting players, teams, and officials is second to none. Rose takes a holistic approach to her role, considering the operational, development, financial, physical, and wellbeing needs of those within the club. She works tirelessly to ensure everyone has the support, resources, and environment they need to succeed and enjoy their rugby league journey.

Through her care, leadership, and selfless service, Rose has helped create a stronger and more connected club where people feel valued and supported. Her dedication embodies the true spirit of Women in League and makes her a deserving recipient of recognition.

Malia Tapu, Papatoetoe Panthers

Malia has been a long-time member of the Papatoetoe Panthers and has played a key role in creating a safe, supportive, and empowering space for young rangatahi wāhine within the club. Over the past two years, she has dedicated countless hours to planning and building the Panthers’ first-ever Under 13 girls team, including going into the community to find players and bring this vision to life.

What Malia has helped create is more than just a team—it is a sisterhood. Through her leadership, care, and belief in the kaupapa, she has given young girls a place where they feel valued, supported, and encouraged to grow both on and off the field.

Malia also goes above and beyond to help her players become active members of the wider Panthers whānau, encouraging them to take part in club courses, development opportunities, and giving back through volunteering at club events. Her support has helped her players develop confidence, leadership skills, and a deeper connection to their club.

A passionate supporter of all teams within Papatoetoe, Malia continues to show up, encourage others, and invest her time into growing the female game. Her dedication to creating opportunities for young wāhine to belong, learn, serve, and thrive through rugby league makes her a deserving recipient of recognition during Women in League Round 2026.

Samantha Aitcheson-Davis, Mt Albert Lions

Sam is one of the many selfless volunteers who help power the Richmond Rugby League community. A Junior Committee member and Under 11s team manager, Sam has been part of the same team journey since its formation in Under 6s, dedicating years of service to supporting players, families, and the wider club.

Beyond managing her team, Sam plays a vital role behind the scenes, helping organise monthly and end-of-season prizegivings, cooking for Junior Club and Masters events, supporting junior managers, and assisting families with registrations and club enquiries. This year, she has taken on the additional responsibility of being a key point of contact for the Junior Club, helping with registration support and assisting with the administration of the Sporty registration system.

Every game day, Sam and her family are there setting up, supporting teams, and helping with pack-down at the end of the day. While much of her mahi happens behind the scenes, her impact is felt throughout the Richmond community. Sam’s generosity, commitment, and unwavering dedication to creating a positive rugby league experience for others make her a deserving recipient of recognition during Women in League Round 2026.

Heather Te Rore, Waiheke Rams

Heather is truly woven into the fabric of the Waiheke Sports Club, Waiheke Rams Rugby League Club, and Waiheke Dolphins Netball Club. A dedicated member for 31 years, Heather is one of those incredible people who is always there—quietly making things happen, supporting others, and stepping in wherever she is needed.

Alongside her husband, the club’s most capped rugby league player, Heather has built a lasting legacy of service and commitment. Their family has been a huge part of the sporting community, with all of their children proudly representing the club through rugby league and netball.

Over the years, Heather has taken on countless roles and has served as a committee member for the past 12 years, sharing her knowledge, experience, and passion to support every aspect of the club. Her dedication continues to make a meaningful difference across the many sports, events, and activities held within the community.

Across Waiheke, when someone needs help, guidance, or information about the Sports Club, Heather is the person people turn to. Her tireless service, genuine care, and commitment to the community have left a lasting impact on generations of members, and the club is stronger because of her.

Jamie Lee Raumati, Waiuku Toa

Jamie is a deserving nominee for Women in League Round 2026, recognised for her outstanding dedication, leadership, and commitment to her club and its young players.

Throughout the 2026 season, Jamie has gone above and beyond in her volunteer role, coaching Mini Mods teams with enthusiasm, patience, and encouragement while creating a positive and supportive environment for players and families. Her ability to connect with people, communicate effectively, and bring families together has helped strengthen the club community and ensure everyone feels welcomed and valued.

As a coach, Jamie leads by example, promoting confidence, teamwork, and a love for rugby league. She takes the time to support every player, celebrate their achievements, and ensure each child feels included and encouraged to reach their potential.

Beyond coaching, Jamie continues to give her time to support club activities, coordinate with parents, and help make game days and team events run smoothly. Her willingness to step up and contribute wherever needed reflects the true spirit of grassroots rugby league.
