SAS Fox Memorial Premiership Grand Final Preview

The top seeded Glenora Bears will take on the undefeated Pt Chevalier Pirates at Mt Smart Stadium in this year’s SAS Fox Memorial Premiership Final. This year’s final will be the first since 2019. Missing the 2020 and 2021 season was tough on all clubs and now finally we will crown a champion for the 2022 season. This is the third time these sides have met in the final over the past six years. In 2017 Glenora defeated Pt Chevalier 26-0 in a blowout final. However, the following year Pt Chevalier defeated Glenora 6-0 in a tight game to be crowned the 2018 Fox Memorial Premiership Champions. Both sides have had great seasons and are evenly matched across the park. This will make for a tightly contested final.

Glenora defeated the Otahuhu Leopards in last weekend’s Semi Final eliminator 28-16. Glenora started fast scoring in the opening set of the game and will look to continue their fast starts to apply early pressure to Pt Chevalier. Glenora’s number 7, Phillip Kingi will be a key player for the Bears. His experience, game management and long kicking game will guide Glenora around the park. Chase Bernard will be a key player for Glenora’s forward pack. Bernard has a high work rate on both attack and defence which will look to inspire their fellow teammates in Saturday’s final.

The Pt Chevalier Pirates defeated the Howick Hornets 24-12 in a tightly contested Semi Final eliminator. The Pirates goal line defence was impressive in their victory, and they will look to keep that same defensive mentality coming into Saturday’s final. Pt Chevalier are currently undefeated in the 2022 season and are looking to complete the perfect season by winning this Saturday. Pat Sipley and Brodie Tamarua will have a big impact in the final for the Pirates. Pat Sipley’s damaging runs up the middle of the park will allow Brodie Tamarua’s ball playing ability to be effective for the Pirates. Off the back of these runs expect Oliver Tuimavave to be pushing around the ball looking for holes in the defence to capitalise on throughout the game.

Crown Lift Trucks Fox Memorial Championship Grand Finals Preview

The Northcote Tigers will take on the Pakuranga Jaguars in this year’s Fox Memorial Championship final at Mt Smart Stadium. The Northcote side are confident in the lead up to this Grand Final off the back of a dominant 48-4 Semi Final win over the Ponsonby Ponies and stringing together consecutive wins since Kevin Locke re-joined the squad. The Pakuranga Jaguars came back from an early 12-0 deficit to defeat the Hibiscus Coast Raiders 24-18 in a tightly contested match. Northcote will look to use their ball playing ability to try move the Pakuranga pack around the park. Whereas Pakuranga will look to accumulate possession and play the game up the middle. The different styles of play work good for both teams making this Grand Final an interesting matchup.
